Check the prerequisite, then recognize the line
The first two layers must be solved. Keep yellow up and blue front. Viewed from above, the left and right top edges should face yellow upward, making a horizontal line. Count edge positions, not yellow stickers on the corners.
Gray positions are ignored for this check. Yellow stickers are marked Y.
Gray means a position is ignored for this check; it does not require an actual gray sticker. The line in this example is already oriented correctly for the sequence below.
Make the six moves
F R U R' U' F'Open the front with F, use R U R' U' in the middle, then close the front with F'. Remembering the opening and closing turns as a pair helps you avoid omitting the finish. Keep the fixed face reference throughout the sequence; do not change orientation halfway.
The workshop supports slow playback and individual steps. Check the setup before watching, then compare the result after all six moves. A top-face pattern seen in the middle of the animation is not the final answer.
What about a dot, L or vertical line?
These are different starting states. A dot or L needs correct positioning and additional rounds; one application of this example is not guaranteed to produce a cross. A front-to-back line must first be made horizontal by adjusting the top layer or the physical holding orientation, as appropriate to your practice setup.
Read the four top-edge patterns before deciding what to do. Cube Room's setup exercise changes the top position deliberately. Applying a memorized algorithm without restoring the reference setup can fail the actual goal check.
Check the result
All four top-edge stickers should face yellow up, with the yellow center between them. Then check that the first two layers are fully restored. The four corners need not all face yellow up; mixed top-layer side colors can also be a normal intermediate state.
Ask: did I count only edges, place the line horizontally, finish the final F', and preserve the first two layers? Once all four answers are yes, continue to Sune and yellow corners. Do not repeat this sequence just because an already completed cross does not yet look like a solved cube.
